This ambitious project (IBA Parkstad) located in the city of Kerkrade, in the most southern part of the Netherlands aims to build a cohesive, sustainable neighbourhood for 129 households by promoting neighbourhood cohesion through communal buildings and using building materials reclaimed from demolition of the decommissioned buildings previously located on the plot. The project aims to incorporate a broad scale of in- and outdoor sustainable technologies (Vacuum toilets; communal food waste grinders; recirculation showers; Rainwater harvesting for drinking water (90%) with overflow in buffer and infiltration pond; greywater treatment (aerated helophyte filter) for household water and blackwater treatment (UASB-reactor) with nutrient recovery for greenery and biogas extraction.
