SCHOONSCHIP | AMSTERDAM

IN NUMBERS

INFO

Based in the north of Amsterdam, Schoonschip, is a neighbourhood consisting of houseboats, pioneered by residents. These 30 house boats, or 46 households, together form “The most sustainable floating neighbourhood of Europe” and includes a communal space in order to strengthen community cohesion and shared electric mobility. Aqua-thermic heating using water from the canal, heat reclaiming showers and separate grey-water and black-water streams with biogas recovery further accentuate the sustainable quality of this project. Furthermore, the neighbourhood has dedicated itself to allowing for further testing of innovations and schemes such as bird preservation using the floating gardens and expanding shared mobility for the surrounding neighbourhoods.
